My daughter, Lola, has been attending Grassroots after school club for over three years. Lola absolutely loves it and gets so much from it.
She has autism and ADHD and can really struggle in social situations, she can go from 0 to 100 in a matter of seconds. Jeff, Zak, Izzy, Charlie, Kyra and all the helpers are absolutely amazing with Lola! They're knowledge, experience and sheer passion for the job really shows! The children are well stimulated and have lots of fun which is probably needed after a full day of sitting and learning, especially for Lola in any case.
I would not want her to go any where else.
My boys joined the club when it started around 4 years ago. With work commitments often finishing later than the school run time it has been beneficial to us as a family. As a parent I am extremely happy with the service provided. The staff are fantastic and relatable, and the children have built up amazing relationships with them all over the years. They offer a safe space after school where Max and Leo can go and participate in many different activities. They love to do a variety of things from playing football and games in the hall to creative activities like playing board games together, creating artwork pieces and even catching up on a little bit of homework. The team are super supportive and flexible in helping them with whatever it is they decide to do that day.
Finley has been attending the extended after school club for a year or so now and thoroughly enjoys the activities and snacks provided, in his words 'it's great fun, I love going to the Hall to jump on the trampoline and mats', 'all of the grown ups are really nice’.
From my perspective, I can rest assured knowing Finley is happy, well cared for and enjoying his time at the after school club.
Jeff and the team are valued and respected members of both the school and wider community, a great asset, I and many other parents would be lost without.
My son, Harrison, has been attending the after-school club for two years. He loves his time at the club and has formed strong positive relationships with all the staff involved. The club provides him with a wide variety of activities to participate in, from arts and crafts, STEM activities such as Lego, and numerous different sports. The club works hard to reinforce the children's social skills and manners. Harrison is naturally a shy child however with gentle encouragement from staff, he has flourished and forged friendships across different year groups at the club because of guidance and support provided by staff. Harrison feels safe at Grassroots and knows who he could approach if he was worried about anything. The staff are excellent at communicating anything that has happened to parents at pick up and are always available to talk to about any concerns. I am confident when I come to collect him everyday that he will have had a good time under their care and often he is disappointed when I arrive. I also feel that the provision is excellent value for money.
GSB have been part of Hamilton's for 7 years now and can honestly say it has been one of the best decisions we have made. The children just embrace everything that is asked of them. It has really supported them to follow instructions, take turns, learn all different types of physical activities and understand the importance of physical activities have on their body, as well as having a male figure in the setting.
We have them attend twice a week so that every child gets to do sports with them. It is lovely to see the children get so excited when they see them walk up the ramp and always greets them with lots of hellos and waves.
Jeff and the team remember's every child's name (they learn them so quickly) and gets to know the one's that need that little bit extra support.
The activities range from balancing, gymnastics, throwing, football, rugby and much more but it just doesn't include physical development they also cover personal, social and emotional, maths and understanding of the world.
The staff also join in, and they then take what they have been learning and add it into our weekly plans, so the children are supported consistently.
SOME SAYINGS FROM THE CHILDREN:
"Jeff and Charlie are awesome I can do star jumps and pencil rolls"
"I love it when we have Sports it's the best day ever"
"Sports with Zak is really really fun"
"My favourite is football”
We recommend GSB for all early year's settings.
